    Title I, Part A School-Level Parent and Family Engagement Policy 

    This policy describes the means for carrying out designated Title I, Part A parent and family engagement requirements pursuant to ESSA Section 1116(c). Each school served under this part shall jointly develop with, and distribute to, parents and family members of participating children a written parent and family engagement policy, agreed on by such parents, that shall describe the means for carrying out the requirements of subsections (c) through (f) (ESSA Section 1116[b][1]). 

    • The school convenes an annual meeting to inform parents of Title I students about Title I requirements and about the right of parents to be involved in the Title I program. 
    • The policy is provided in three languages: English, Arabic, and Spanish. 鈼 At the first SSC meeting each year ALL parents are invited to the SSC meeting and are trained on the responsibilities. 
    • The school offers a flexible number of meetings for Title I parents, such as meetings at the beginning of each year; the current PTA, ELAC & SSC parents establish the most convenient time to hold meetings. 

    To involve parents in the Title I, Part A programs, the following practices have been established: 

    • The school involves parents of Title I students in an organized, ongoing, and timely way. The school’s community liaison plays a leading role in the outreach of our parents by inviting them to parent engagement activities. 

    The school convenes an annual meeting to inform parents about Title I, Part A requirements and about the right of parents to be involved in the Title I, Part A program (ESSA Section 1116[c][1]). 

    • A Title I meeting is held to review requirements. Parents are invited via Parent Square, and person to person phone calls.

    The school offers a flexible number of meetings for Title I, Part A parents, such as meetings in the morning or evening (ESSA Section 1116[c][2]). 鈼 Morning meetings are the most popular with parents who are already at school. The meetings are held while the parents are still on campus dropping off. Staff greets parents at drop-off and invites them to the auditorium for coffee. 

    • After school meetings are school site council meetings are held after school. 
    • During school English language advisory committee meetings are held. 鈼 Meetings are held in three languages: English, Spanish, and Arabic. Parents are provided with translation devices for their convenience as the translations are simultaneous. 
    • Coffee and refreshments are provided. 

    The school involves parents of Title I, Part A students in an organized, ongoing, and timely way, in the planning, review, and improvement of the school’s Title I, Part A programs and the Title I, Part A parent involvement policy (ESSA Section 1116[c][3]). 

    • Both at the ELAC and SSC meetings, ongoing data analysis is conducted to monitor student success throughout the year. From the analysis, programs are developed and adjusted, curriculum is chosen, interventions are established and professional development is aligned. 
    • If the schoolwide program plan is not satisfactory to parents then parent comments must be submitted on the plan when the school makes the plan available to the District. 
    • The Parent Involvement Policy is reviewed at the end of the year to determine if the current actions support parent involvement or if adjustments are needed. 
    • The school provides parents of Title I, Part A students with timely information about Title I, Part A programs (ESSA Section 1116[c)(4][A]). 鈼 Regular communication is provided for parents through PeachJar, parent letters, parent square and by phone. Programs and student outcome data is reviewed at ELAC & SSC meetings, as well as individual student outcomes, through parent conferences and report cards.

    The school provides parents of Title I, Part A students with an explanation of the curriculum used at the school, the assessments used to measure student progress, and the proficiency levels students are expected to meet (ESSA Section 1116[c][4][B]). 

    • The core program curriculum and assessments which are based on California Common Core State Standards are discussed at Back to School Afternoon and parent conferences. 
    • Curriculum and district adoptions are also a topic of discussion at SSC, ELAC and Coffee with the Principal. 

    If requested by parents of Title I, Part A students, the school provides opportunities for regular meetings that allow the parents to participate in decisions relating to the education of their children (ESSA Section 1116[c][4][C]). 

    • ELAC, SSC and parent conferences provide opportunities for parents to provide input and ask questions about their child’s education. 
    • Opportunities for families to provide inputs. For example, Coffee with the Principal, SSC, ELAC and Title 1 Meeting
    • More opportunities to volunteer at Lexington
    • Workshops to teach students about safety and security
    • Staff made a contribution to increasing parent participation in all languages 鈼 Morning English lessons for families to learn English

    The school engages Title I, Part A parents in meaningful interactions with the school. The Compact supports a partnership among staff, parents, and the community to improve student academic achievement. To help reach these goals, the school has established the following practices: 

    The school provides Title I, Part A parents with assistance in understanding the state’s academic content standards, assessments, and how to monitor and improve the achievement of their children (ESSA Section 1116[e][1]). 

    • Curriculum, computer learning programs and assessments are explained during Coffee with the Principal meetings. 
    • Family Teacher Teams during Back to School Afternoon and Open House focus on progress monitoring and academics.

    The school provides Title I, Part A parents with materials and training to help them work with their children to improve their children's achievement (ESSA Section 1116[e][2]). 

    • Parent University classes are offered throughout the year in English, Spanish and Arabic with a culmination ceremony that celebrates literacy at the end of the year. 

    With the assistance of Title I, Part A parents, the school educates staff members in the value of parent contributions, and in how to work with parents as equal partners (ESSA Section 1116[e][3]). 

    • Parents are invited to bring their suggestions to the office via a suggestion box located in full view. 
    • Parents have access to the community liaison, who connects parents to resources and shares their concerns and contributions with the principal. 

    The school coordinates and integrates the Title I, Part A parental involvement program with other programs, and conducts other activities, such as parent resource centers, to encourage and support parents in more fully participating in the education of their children (ESSA Section 1116[e][4]). 

    • Parent gatherings that focus on community resources encourage parents to participate in programs that focus on the education of their children, both academic and social. 

    The school distributes Information related to school and parent programs, meetings, and other activities to Title I, Part A parents in a format and language that the parents understand (ESSA Section 1116[e][5]). 

    • Parent communication is delivered through Parent Square in Arabic, Spanish, and English, Marquee display, phone calls, and bulletin boards displayed at arrival and dismissal. 

    The school provides support for parental involvement activities requested by Title I, Part A parents (ESSA Section 1116[e][14]). 

    • Parents participate in volunteer activities, walking clubs, community resource fairs, English classes, lunch on the lawn, movie nights, You Belong at Lexington Night and many other ongoing parent involvement activities and events.

    The school provides opportunities for the participation of all Title I, Part A parents, including parents with limited English proficiency, parents with disabilities, and parents of migratory students. Information and school reports are provided in a format and language that parents understand (ESSA Section 1116[f]). 

    This policy was adopted by Lexington Elementary School on October 28, 2021 and will be in effect for the period of October 28, 2021 to June 16, 2021.
